TOPIC: Home, artists, search etc. bar at top of screen.

Home, artists, search etc. bar at top of screen. 1 year 11 months ago #1984

Is it possible to not have this forceably the same height as the 'now playing / player' pane?
There is a lot of screen real estate used up there? I would also like to resize the 'add selected/add all' isons, to allow larger coverflow artwork. I am running at 1024 * 768 as I am using an ipad as a remote control (via RDP) to my windows media pc.

I am trying to keep as little on screen as possible control/icon wise as to allow maximum selection, artwork viewing.

To change the menu height please close JJ, then go to \Jukebox Jockey\Jukebox Jockey Media Player Pro 1\AppData\Settings. Open JJLayouts.ini and there you will see both QueueWidth and MenuHeight. Note you can also change the font settings and list height by going to Settings>Skins>...

that will shrink down the bar, but also stuffs the player.
I want the player to be left alone,but the scrollable bar to the left to be not as tall.
eg, bar to be 160, player to be 300 (high).

This stuff is still a work in progress which is why it's hidden away in config files still. Try this one, this is what I did in those screen caps that I sent you:

[Settings]
ActiveLayout=AdjustableMenuHeight

[AdjustableMenuHeight]
PlayerTitleStyle=0
ShowMicrophoneVolume=0
MenuHeight=80
QueueWidth=400
ShowTopControlPanel=0

Sorry to bring back a "zombie thread", but I have the same issue / need.

Changing the MenuHeight setting moves the entire horizontal divider, not just the height of the browser menu bar.

That bar could easily be 100px or smaller, but then the now-playing portion of the player/que pane (upper right frame) is unusable because it is also narrowed down.

Those browser select buttons do use huge amounts of real estate when the player frame is an appropriate size.

Some quick "ASCII Art" to show what I want to do:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
|    Menu    |    Menu    |    Menu    |    Menu    |    Menu    |    Menu    |   Now Playing:               |
|-----------------------------------------------------------------------------|      Title                   |
|                                                                             |      Artist                  |
|                                                                             |                              |
|                                                                             |                              |
|                                                                             |------------------------------|
|                                                                             |  Button |  Button |  Button  |
|           Library Browser Frame                                             |------------------------------|

Hello Tim,

This one's easy... Go to Jukebox Jockey Media Player [Edition]/Appdata/Settings/JJLayouts.ini. Change the ActiveLayout=AdjustableMenuHeight. Then change the MenuHeight=100. This should do what you asked for. You'll probably have to change some other things with the menu fonts and icons to make it all look OK.

Thanks for your help on this - it does indeed work.

I've got the frames sized how I want, now I have to figure out how to resize the options menu on the bottom of the request list (lower right corner) as it's now much bigger vertically than it was before...

It would be helpful if you guys could add documentation to the wiki for the ini files, layouts, and skinning.

BTW, I think there is an extension available for most wiki systems to produce a link in the wiki to allow users to export to PDF if desired - that would be a nice addition.

Thanks again!
Tim

Hi Tim,

Just to clarfiy why some things are kind of "hidden" away in ini files etc.

We are forever coming up with new ideas or getting user requests for all sorts of things, in the mean time we are also working on existing and developing new "core features". Sometimes it can be really easy to add in a new behaviour for testing purposes or to help get a user "out of trouble" (so to speak) and we almost always do that via an ini file setting in the first instance. At the ini file stage we would also typically consider that setting as "unsupported".

For a setting to make its way into the GUI the underlying idea/feature really needs to be concrete.

So I guess what I am trying to say is that while we have toyed with the layouts concept and toyed with skinning ability we have never had the time to go far enough to fully flesh out everything that we need/want those features to achieve so they wouldn't be considered "core features" and they aren't really supported (in an official sense) either. So I don't think that we would want to publicly document these kinds of things (yet).

I hope that makes sense.

One last follow up question on this topic...

Now that I have the browser menu bar slimmed down just right, is there an ini key I can use to make the now-playing area of the player (top right frame) just a bit larger? I'd like to give it a bit more room for the cover art to expand into. I've got a fairly large wide-aspect touch screen and can afford the space in that area.

Hi Tim,

Sorry, not at the moment, I just checked the code and it's fixed at 150pixels with the "AdjustableMenuHeight" layout. I guess that a custom player height would be a logical extension to that layout but it's not in there at the moment.
