we have just purchased pro version and have no problem putting music on JJ
but how do i do videos and karaoke
i have downloaded a music video from you tube using real player but cannot bring it across to JJ
have downloaded what the tutorials tell me but when i go to configure its just a load of computer language
i bought the pro version but am not getting the full experience
please help

Thank you for your purchase. Don't worry, we are here to help. It sounds like there may be two things going on.

1. Did you notice the "change mode" button on the top left of the screen? That allows you to get to the Music, Video, and Karaoke collections to request songs.

2. Did you install FDDShow + Tryouts and the Haali Media Splitter? You need to install these programs in order to play video through Jukebox Jockey. You can see this document for the links:

Before you try to play the videos with Jukebox Jockey you need to make sure that they play in Windows Media Player first. This is the best way to validate that they are working properly.

I am not sure about youtube videos and Windows Media Player, youtube videos, as far as I am aware, are Flash Video Format and typically aren't playable in Windows Media Player. There is probably a codec/plugin that you can download, but I am not sure if it's supported by FFDShow.

The reason that we recommend FFDShow is that it has the decoders for a lot of popular file formats and codecs. By installing FFDShow+Haali you get XVID,DIVX,mpeg 2,mp4 etc which typically don't ship with Windows, at least not XP. Their decoders are also "friendlier" to 3rd party programmers (us) and allow us to do more with the decoded image (like display it on 2 monitors) than many other decoders do.

I know it's a painful process, but worth it in the end.

Can you see the videos in the views? On the Settings>Media>Media Folder Configuration configuration, have you set Jukebox Jockey to scan the folders where the files are located? You must select the video collection, add the folder, and then choose scan.

Hi Garry,

By talking about Windows Media Player we are trying to make the distinction that, there's nothing that you need to configure for Jukebox Jockey to play videos (aside from telling JJ where your videos are like you have for audio files), you need to configure your computer to play the videos. The part of the computer that you need to configure is DirectShow, in order to do that you install video codecs, to get a whole bunch of codecs for many different video formats we are recommending FFDShow. To validate that your codecs are installed correctly and that you can play your media it is advisable to do that with Windows Media Player before trying to play them in JJ.

So you download and install FFDShow and Haali Media Splitter (it sounds like you may have already installed FFDShow) and then you test your video files in Windows Media Player. If Windows Media Player can't play your video then you are still missing something, if Windows Media Player can play your video then, theoretically, JJ will play it too.

Can you give us more of an idea of where you are up to?

What kind of file is it? (what is its filename extension, you know, the bit after the "dot" mpg, avi, mp4 etc)
Can you play it in Windows Media Player?
If you can play it in Windows Media Player, can you get JJ to scan it in and show it so that you can pick it for playback?
If you can pick it in JJ, what happens when you try to play it? So the player simply stop, does it play but there's not picture? etc

still having problems with video and karaoke they do not show in main screen
the files appear to be in JJ
if i change the mode to either video or karaoke the main screen still displays the track
in my music list
the karaoke plays fine in winamp

So can you hear them? As in are they playing at all even if you can't see them?

You might need to check out Config->Hardware->Video and Karaoke Display then select "Home Screen" on the right hand side and make sure that "Show Video" and "Show Karaoke" are checked at the bottom.
