Jukebox Jockey is a feature-rich application with goals to become even better as time goes on. Please use this forum to ask for features you wish to see. You may not always receive a response to posts in this category, but they will always be viewed and analyzed for feasibility.

TO ASK FOR A NEW VIEW:
Please include as much detail as possible about how your view should work. What information should it sort and from what fields? How should the view be organized in terms of columns and rows? Please look at our existing views to see if there is something similar to what you need. Take a look at the existing designs to describe what functions your view should have (For example, Buttons, lists, album art, sliding album page, etc). Then describe how that view should be changed to fit your needs. The more information as to how your media is setup and how the new view should display that media the better.

hey guys i was wondering if theres any way for a user to update the media without having to go to the settings menu? ie auto updating?

im putting external usb ports on my cabinet so if friends come over with their music, they can plug in their stick, update the library then select a song. then when he/she leaves, they can take their music with them, saving me hard drive space, and also stopping me from making an illegal copy etc.

cheers and keep up the good work!

Hello Joel,

You are asking for auto detect for external media. There must be a way for software to "get in the list" on windows. When that auto start option box comes up that asks you "what do you want to do"? Presumably we could get in that list and then when you select to "load into JJ" it would create a new collection, scan in the media, and there you have it. This isn't straight forward.

But what you can do is certainly create a new collection inside JJ (settings>media>media folder configuration). Then call it "external media". Then when a drive is plugged in you would select the drive and run the scan. You can also add a "rescan" button to the more options menu (settings>Users>More Options Menu). If there was a way for windows to automatically put all external drives at the same place (IE d:/) then you could set that collection up and forget it. You would just have to hit rescan. But I fear that is not the case.

This is a cool idea. We'll keep it here for future review.

that would be suitable, i could just have e:\, f:\, g:\ etc in a collection. does this mean i could put a "scan media" button on screen somewhere? or perhaps even a hotkey ( or ctrl+s or the like?) perhaps for another external keyboard or something...

i'm getting too excited for possibilities now :D

cheers

Hello,

Go to Settings>Users>More Options Menu and add the "rescan" button to that list. Then you can trigger a rescan by going to the Jukebox Jockey menu and choosing "rescan". The collection you are suggesting could possibly have all of the potential drive letters listed I suppose....

The challenge you will have is whether your friends have tagged media. If their media is horrible then the views won't look good either. You might want to add a {Title}.{} file mask to the list so that no matter what their tracks are listed somewhere in the views - even if they are no artist....

You must add "rescan" as a command that the guest user can execute. This will allow the guest to see/activate the function. OR you must add the command to the "always visible". This will allow all users to see the function but only those who have access to them will not be prompted for a password to run the command.
