Hi

Please tell me with regards to juebox jockey, why do my videos not display in video mode ? I have my video folder setup as follows : D:\Movie\Avatar\Avatar.avi.
I have my media library pointing to D:\Movie

Also please tell me in music mode how do i get all my albums to display instead of only the ones selected by the letter?

Thanks
Cliff

Hi Cliff,

The first thing to know about Jukebox Jockey's video support is that it uses Microsoft's DirectShow for playback. This is what Windows Media Player uses for video playback. So the first thing to do if you have any problems playing a video is to ensure that it plays in Windows Media Player first. There are so many different video codecs and AVI is not actually a "codec" an AVI file could have mpg video, or divx video or mpg2 video or any number of things inside it so it's really important that you have all of the required codecs installed.

We have been extensively testing Jukebox Jockey with FFDShow Tryouts (http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/) which provides codecs for almost all popular video codecs and I really recommend that you install it for use with Jukebox Jockey.

So please try your file with Windows Media Player first and also install FFDShow, then see if JJ works for you.

As for the albums display we can do this, but I am not sure that this particular view has been included with the installer. Could you please tell me exactly what you want? Do you simply want albums on the left with a track list on the right? Do you want albums to take up the whole screen with the new slide in album cover+tracks showing up after clicking an album?

We can define new views quite easily (they are simply text files) and send them to you to use. You then have to install them and define a menu button to access them easily.

Anyway, I have attached 2 views. You need to unzip the 2 files into JJ's "...\Views\Default" folder. Then use the menu builder to add "All Albums 1" or "All Albums 2" to your menu. You can also just check them out using the view tester first. To change the number of rows/columns you will need to edit the files. To do this open in a text editor and have a look for "CoverRows" and "CoverColumns" in the [Settings] section, you can make them whatever you want:

[Settings]
....
CoverRows=3
CoverColumns=5

I hope that all makes sense, if not ask more questions!

Hi Tony

Thanks for your quick response :)

With regards to the album covers i will test them out, and give feedback.

With regard to the video, its not that its not playing them, its that i cant even see the videos in the display to click on, in otherwords it looks like i have imported nothing. Not sure what to do here?

Thanks
Cliff

Hello Cliff,

I also had someone e-mail me about the same issue. He could apparently play the videos in Windows Media Player, but they weren't scanning into Jukebox Jockey. Here is the fix I just tried on my PC and it worked.

  1. Close Jukebox Jockey.
  2. Browse over to Jukebox Jockey\Plugins\TagPlugins\TAG_Settings.ini
  3. Under the "VideoExtensions=" section, add the file format that you want to add. So in the other user's example, he had to add ",m4v". (without the quotes, just as you see with the rest of the formats.
  4. Save the file and start Jukebox Jockey.

The installer will be updated for future users.

***EDIT - It looks like you are using AVI files. This file should already be included in the list so you may not have to do that. Are you aware of the "change collection" button located on the top left of the screen? You must change the collection to Video to view that collection... Please let me know if any of this helps.

Hi Jay

Thanks for your response.

They are avi files, and they are already included in the list. I did change the view to video...still nothing. When i change mode to video it still shows the labels "artists", "albums", ect. Is this the way it should be?

On one of my stand up comedian video i saw the actor under artist, when i clicked on that, the video played. It was the only thing of all 11 movies that i saw.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Cliff

Hello Cliff,

Please navigate to Jukebox Jockey Settings>General>Media Library Browser>Collections>Videos and tell me if you see the files in there. If you see the files in there, please tell me if they have any Artist or Title information. I suspect that you are having an issue with the file masks.

If you see the files in there and do not see the Artist and Title information, please take a look at your files and determine what the mask looks like. So you may have:

Artist - Title.avi
Track - Artist - Title.avi
Title.avi
Etc....

You must make sure all the files are named using the same file naming method. Then browse over to Jukebox Jockey Settings>Media>Media Folder Configuration>Video and then on that page, above the file paths, you will see "FILE MASKS". Go there and select to use advanced file masks. Then find in the list your naming method (as detailed above). Move that method to the top of the list. If you do not see your naming method in Jukebox Jockey, then add your own. Make sure it's on the top. Then do a rescan and let me know if your files show up now.

Yes, all the views in Jukebox Jockey (besides the playlist views) look at the profile and display the media according to whatever the current profile is set to search for. So in your case, you have "Artists" and "Albums" in the "Video" profile, so that is what it is showing.

Hi Cliff,

Sorry I missunderstood the problem. Jay has pretty much covered it off though now. What you may find though is that you have different needs for different kinds of media files, in this case videos. For example you file is a movie and therefore doesn't have artist or title information, by default Jukebox Jockey's views are really set up oriented towards music.

Do you have music videos as well or are you just wanting to load movies into JJ? It's kind of a more advanced topic until you get used to JJ's terminology but you can in face create new media collections in Jukebox Jockey. The collection will have it's own set of media folders to scan and can also have it's own set of file masks. In Jukebox Jockey it doesn't make any sense to mix both Music Videos and Movies in the one collection because they will typically have different file naming conventions and different display/search/selection requirements.

So, for movies I would suggest in the Media Scan configuration page to add a new collection named "Movies", specify the folders that should be scanned for your movies and on the File Masks tab for the Movies collection set the appropriate file mask as per Jay's advice. In your case the mask is simply {Title}.{}. You could in fact go a little bit further and classify your movies into genres by having a parent folder like "Action" or "Sci Fi" and it's possibly to import that too via File Masks so that you could break your movies down be Genre then Title.

As you have already seen though, JJ's views are typically oriented at music (Artist, Title, Album, Genre etc) so to display movies you'll need a different view. How do you want to see your movies listed? Do you simply want a flat alphabetical listing? Let me know and I'll send you a view and some more instructions.

Thanks Tony/Jay

I have attached to files so u can see what my movie structure and masks look like. Still nothing.

I have a huge collection of Movies, Music Videos, And Tv Series.

I would love to display them all in jukebox jockey :)

I would like to display my movies in alphabetical order, as well as be able to sort in genre.

My Tv Series File structure goes like this:

D:\TV Series\Smallville\Season 1\Episode 1
D:\TV Series\Smallville\Season 1\Episode 2
D:\TV Series\Smallville\Season 2\Episode 1
D:\TV Series\Heroes\Season 1\Episode 1....and so on.

Thank you for being helpful
Cliff

Hi Cliff,

Are you happy for us to just work on getting your movies working first, then we'll move onto the others? Since you have different filename conventions you're going to need a different collection for each one. So eventuall we'll need one that covers Music Videos, one for Movies and one for TV Series, this will ensure that they can all be displayed nicely in the interface.

The first thing we need to do for movies is to get the file maks correct. In your case you simply need to add a file mask of "{TITLE}.{}" (without the quotes).

You can see from your screen capture that one of your movies actually got a title, and that's because it matched the mask as it had a " - " in it. The mask I have just specified above basically says use the entire filename except for the "." and the file extenison as the title of the video. That should be enough to at least see all of your views listed in the media library browser.

I have also attached a new view file for you to use. You need to extract and copy into JJ's ...\Views\Default folder. You will then need to add that button to your menu using the menu builder. The view simply displays the titles of all media in the active collection. So I wouldn't use it on a massive collection (like 10,000+) but thousands of items is certainly OK.

This should be enough to get started with the movies at least.

Music Videos should be easy as that's what we set up JJ to do by default anyway.

Your TV series naming convention looks interesting and may present a few challenges, but I am sure we can work something out.
